LOHP is committed supporting the oral health of our community through advocacy and access to care. Our mission is to promote oral health wellness while working to identify and reduce caries within the County of Lassen. Per the January 1, 2007 law (AB 1433) students in kindergarten, or enrolled in first grade in a public school, (if not previously enrolled), must submit proof of an oral health assessments. The assessments must be performed by a licensed or registered dental health professional, and proof of assessment is due on an annual basis by May 31. Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment is another way schools can help reduce dental disease in children through connecting children to a source of dental care, reduce chronic absenteeism, and improve school readiness. This requirement is established under (California Education Code [EC] Section 49452.8). The law states that schools must send notification of the assessment requirement to parents or legal guardians.

School-Based Program

We are now able to use portable dental equipment to do preventive dental services for all students in Lassen County schools thanks to the support of Patricia Gunderson, Lassen County Superintendent of Schools.  We offer free dental screenings and fluoride varnish.
Our hope is to support our kids and families and to do everything possible to fight and prevent dental disease that is so common in our community. Children need good oral health to succeed in school, speak with confidence, and build healthy relationships with peers. Poor oral health has been associated with lower school performance, nutrition and sleeping problems, and reduced success later in life for children with significant untreated oral health needs. It is the number one cause of school absences. Consent forms will be given to your child by the school, once the oral health assessment date is scheduled.
